About — Liz Armstrong

I am drawn to natural organic subjects as their shapes are alluring to me. My early training was in drawing and is still a big component as I develop a painting. My graphic design background also factors into my style and reveals itself in my choices of composition, shape, color, and positive and negative space.

I seek out places that are visually powerful for me. I observe and then interpret my sense of that place into a painting. I find that my paintings have an aspect of peace and calm to them.

I choose subjects and locations that I am familiar with. I work in layers of complimentary colors which sets up a vibrant relationship between each color. My work falls into a space between realism and graphic interpretation of the natural world.
